Pernerstorfer, Matthias J.

Geboren 1976 in Eggenburg, Niederösterreich. Studium der Theater-, Film- und Medienwissenschaft in Wien und München, abgeschlossen mit einer Diplomarbeit über die Figur des Parasiten in der antiken griechischen Komödie (2001). Stipendium (DOC) der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften für eine Dissertation über Menanders Kolax (2003–2005). Anschließend tätig für das Wiener Da Ponte Institut für Librettologie, Don Juan Forschung und Sammlungsgeschichte (2005–2006).

Seit 2007 Mitarbeiter des Don Juan Archiv Wien, seit 2011 Direktor. Autor und Herausgeber von zahlreichen Publikationen, u.a. zwei Bände der Reihe Bibliographica zu Theaterzetteln (2012 und 2015), drei Bände der Reihe Summa Summarum, d.h. gesammelte Schriften von Reinhart Meyer (2012), Herbert Seifert (2014) und Tomislav Volek (2016, mit Milada Jonašová); das Lexikon Theater in Böhmen, Mähren und Schlesien. Von den Anfängen bis zum Ausgang des 18. Jahrhunderts (2013, mit Alena Jakubcová) oder Texte zur Handlungsgliederung in Nea und Palliata von Adolf Primmer (2015, mit Alfred Dunshirn). Produktionsleiter der Reihe Specula Spectacula / Cadernos de Queluz (10 Bände, 2014–2023) und des Jedermann-Regiebuchs zu den Inszenierungen von Max Reinhardt in Berlin, Salzburg und New York (2 Bände, 2020) für das 100-Jahr-Jubiläum der Salzburger Festspiele.

Experte für die Bereitstellung von Informationen zur Theater- und Musiktheatergeschichte, einerseits durch jahrelange Zusammenarbeit mit Reinhart Meyer (Documenta dramatica, in Arbeit) und Paul S. Ulrich (Topographie und Repertoire des Theaters, 2018, 2022-2024) sowie die Reprint-Ausgabe des Libretto-Katalogs von Claudio Sartori (2024), andererseits durch Digitalisierungsinitiativen. Persönlicher Forschungsschwerpunkt ist das religiöse Theater im Barock. Mehrere Aufsätze zum Schultheater der Piaristen in Horn und zu den Aufführungen beim Heiligen Grab am Wiener Hof, im Zisterzienserstift Heiligenkreuz oder in Eisenstadt liegen vor, weitere sind im Druck.

Dunlop, Alison J. (* 4th July 1985; † 18th July 2013)

Alison Dunlop was born in 1985 in Northern Ireland. She completed a doctoral dissertation on the composer Gottlieb Muffat (1690-1770) at Queen's University Belfast under the supervision of Professors Yo Tomita and Ian Woodfield having earlier graduated with a BA in Modern Greek and Music (first class honours), and a MA in Music (distinction). She simultaneously studied piano with Roy Holmes at the Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama and has performed at venues across Ireland. Before coming to Vienna she taught music privately and was a teaching assistant at Queen's University where she also organised several events; most recently she was joint co-ordinator of the 14th Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music. Her current area of research is focused on musicians at the Viennese imperial court in the 18th century. She has published on various aspects of keyboard music and source studies and presented at academic gatherings in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. The Life and Works of Gottlieb Muffat (1690-1770). A Documentary Biography. Catalogue of Works and Sources (Wien: Hollitzer Wissenschaftsverlag) was published in 2013.

The Don Juan Archiv Wien is greatly saddened by the tragic and unexpected departure of Dr. Alison J. Dunlop. She passed away on 18th July 2013. [in memoriam]

 

Eisendle, Reinhard

Reinhard Eisendle works at the Don Juan Archiv Wien on the history of theatre from the 17th to the 19th century. His research fields are especially the relationship of theatre, politics and diplomacy, the figure of Don Juan on the international stage as well as the stagings of ‚Serail‘ in European theatre. He is co-editor of the series Specula Spectacula, Don Juan Studies and Diplomatica. His recent publications include the study Der einsame Zensor: Zur staatlichen Kontrolle des Theaters unter Maria Theresia und Joseph II. (Hollitzer, 2020) and the edition of Il giovane Metastasio / Der junge Metastasio (coedited with Francesco Cotticelli. Hollitzer, 2021), Culture and Diplomacy. Ambassadors as Cultural Actors in Ottoman-European Relations from the 16th to the 19th Century (together with Suna Suner and Hans Ernst Weidinger. Hollitzer, 2023) and Performing Diplomacy in the Early Modern World (in cooperation with Roberta Anderson and Suna Suner. Hollitzer, autumn 2024). Together with Matthias J. Pernerstorfer, he is committed to continuing the Don Juan Studies series, which opened with the study by Hans Ernst Weidinger on a revised genesis of Da Ponte’s and Mozart's Don Giovanni (published by Hollitzer 2023 from the estate of the author and founder of Don Juan Archiv Wien and Hollitzer Verlag).

Eisendle was curator of several cultural-historical and theatre-historical exhibitions, among them are Salieri sulle tracce di Mozart in Milano 2004 in Palazzo Reale on the occasion of the reopening of Teatro alla Scala, Mozart. Experiment Aufklärung in Albertina in the Mozart Year 2006 and Lorenzo da Ponte. Aufbruch in die Neue Welt in the same year at the Jewish Museum in Vienna. He is also an advisor to opera productions and dramaturg of contemporary theatre – amongst others he adapted Aslı Erdoğan‘s novel Das Haus aus Stein for stage, which premiered with the title Nicht einmal das Schweigen in November 2019 in Graz.

Gruber, Andrea

Studied Library and Informations Studies at the Austrian National Library in cooperation with the University of Vienna, and Political Science with a focus on Gender Studies at the University of Salzburg. Before working in the department for reference and information services at the Austrian National Library, she was responsible for account management, controlling and project management in computing service companies, and worked at the department of women’s and gender studies at the University of Linz. Since December 2012 she works at the Don Juan Archiv Wien as librarian.

Hüttler, Michael

Dr.phil., studied theatre, film and media studies as well as journalism and communication studies at Vienna University; worked in a bank for several years prior to studying. Has been teaching at Yeditepe University Istanbul (2001 - 2003) and at Vienna University, Department for Theatre-, Film- and Mediastudies (2003-2010). He has been conducting research for the Da Ponte Institute and the Don Juan Archiv Wien since 2001. 2007-2011 he has been director of Don Juan Archiv Wien, since 2011 he is director of the Hollitzer Verlag

Current research focuses on forms of music and popular theatre in the eighteenth century and the "turkish-oriental sujet" in European theatre.

Suner, Suna

Dr.phil., performing arts academic, singer, stage artist. Studied Translation & Interpreting at Hacettepe University (B.A., 1996). Taught at Istanbul Bilgi University between the years 1996–2002 and in 2004 received her M.A. degree in Performing Arts from Middlesex University in London. In 2013 received her PhD from the Institute of Theatre, Film & Media Studies of the University of Vienna. Since 2007 a member of the Don Juan Archiv Wien’s team, from 2008 on she has co-directed and organized the Don Juan Archiv Wien’s international symposia series, along with concerts, “Ottoman Empire & European Theatre”. Co-editor of the publication series Ottomania and Diplomatica. Recent publications are Gender and Diplomacy: Women and Men in European and Ottoman Embassies from the 15th to the 18th Century (co-edited with Roberta Anderson and Laura Oliván Santaliestra. Hollitzer Verlag, 2021/2023), Culture and Diplomacy. Ambassadors as Cultural Actors in Ottoman-European Relations from the 16th to the 19th Century (co-edited with Reinhard Eisendle and Hans Ernst Weidinger. Hollitzer Verlag, 2023) and Performing Diplomacy in the Early Modern World (together with Roberta Anderson and Reinhard Eisendle. Hollitzer Verlag, autumn 2024). She is engaged in the fields of cultural affairs and education, and currently involved in a brand new education initiative of the Bildungsdirektion Wien.

As a singer and perfoming artist Suna Suner took the stage in numerous concerts, stage works and productions in music, theatre and performance since 1996. Recording artist in music album releases: Kökler (1997, Ada Records), Mama’s Bag (2021, Bone Union Records) and Istanbul Blues Kumpanyası Live at Efes Pilsen Blues Festival 1997 (2022, Bone Union Records). Singer and performer at Istanbul Blues Kumpanyası and Kum,Pan,Ya Theatre (Istanbul, 1996–2002). Artistic co-director and singer at Music For Separees (Vienna, 2012–2018) and Vienna Noir (www.viennanoir.com).

Weidinger, Hans Ernst (* 29 July 1949; † 24 February 2023)

Gewerke, Dr. phil., studied law, classical languages, theatre studies and art history at Vienna University, and dance, voice and piano in Vienna and Prague; has conducted study trips to Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Palermo, London and Prague; talks at Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa; Mozarteum University Salzburg; ISSEI, Pamplona. Founder of Don Juan Archive in 1987. Projects include Wiener Brut (film, Vienna 1982); Constitutionis Theresianae Revocatio (performance, Vienna 1982); La Prétendante Chante (performance, Berlin 1984); Il Giudizio di Don Giovanni (opera - librettist & director, Ratisbon 1986); HIC SAXA LOQVVNTVR (architectural competition, Pfaffenberg - Berlin - Vienna - Venice, 1993-96); Eine Oper für Büropa (opera - librettist & director, Linz 1998); Fermata Greve Piazza (opera - librettist and director, Greve in Chianti, 2002). In 2002 he finished his 16-volume dissertation on Don Giovanni. He founded Redaktion Tagbau (1999), Don Juan Archiv Wien (2007), Stvdivm faesvlanvm (2009) and Hollitzer Verlag (2011).
